"My Favorite Tree" Contest Entries

Summary

The Outdoor Circle's (TOC) "My Favorite Tree" contest is designed to highlight the many trees throughout the state that an individual or group finds interesting for a variety of reasons. From rarity to aesthetic features, this competition will show other tree lovers from around the state what magnificent specimens exist, along with providing a reason as to why the contest entrant chose the specific tree. By including a location address, these trees can also be added to TOC's "My Favorite Tree Map" which will allow others to experience these same trees that they otherwise may not have known to exist.

Rules

1) Submissions must be made by using either Instagram or directly to Myles Ritchie at TOC by email.

Instagram
- If you choose to submit your image on Instagram, please be sure to include:
-A caption as to why you chose the tree.
-The address associated with a tree (if it is at a park, please indicate the name).
-The #myfavoritetreehawaii along with @outdoorcirclehi in the caption (please note that all entries that do not have the #myfavoritetreehawaii and @outdoorcirclehi will be excluded from the contest).
  - For an example of an Instagram submission, please view the contest page here.

Email
- If you wish to submit your entry by email, please do so my emailing TOC's Programs Director, Myles Ritchie, directly at myles@outdoorcircle.org
- All email submissions will be posted on the "My Favorite Tree" entry page on the TOC website.

2) There is no entry limit for the competition. Furthermore it is encouraged that you submit as many entries as you wish as long as they meet the criteria of the contest.

3) All members of the public can enter this contest. You do not need to be a member of The Outdoor Circle in order to submit your entries.

Prizes

Four times per year TOC staff will select the winning photo submission and provide a reason as to what made it stand out amongst all other entries. The winner will have a legacy Koa tree planted on the Big Island as part of the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative (https://legacytrees.org).

Each tree is tagged with an RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chip and GPS location allowing the individual to track the tree throughout its life time using applications such as Google Earth. A certificate is also produced to commemorate the sponsorship.

The winners will be notified either directly on Instagram or by email (depending on the submission method).

The award dates are as follows:
1) February 1 (November, December, January)
2) May 1 (February, March, April)
3) August 1 (May, June, July)
4) November 1 (August, September, October)
