Trees are Important to Us!Trees are important to the Outdoor Circle and its members. They provide shade to our cities and greenery to our island landscapes. The Outdoor Circle advocates for the planting and protection of trees in Hawaii, and serves as a resource for those who work with trees or want to save one. Our Exceptional Tree Initiative aims to document Hawaii's most notable trees and educate the public on their benefits.

The Exceptional Tree Initiative
In 1975, the Hawai`i Legislature passed the Exceptional Tree Act (Act 105) to protect designated trees—both public and private—from improper trimming and unnecessary removal. Today, we are helping to grow this list of protected trees and document their positive impact on our local environment. As part of this initiative, we've developed a map of Hawaii's Exceptional Trees—the first of its kind!—which you can view here.
