Ways To Give

The Outdoor Circle is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization which is neither federally funded nor funded by the state. Our success depends on the generosity of our members and philanthropic donors who make gifts of cash and other types of contributions each year. Donors may take advantage of one or more of the following giving opportunities. All donations made to The Outdoor Circle are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

BEQUESTS
Over the years, revenue from bequests has allowed The Outdoor Circle to continue to preserve, protect and enhance the environment of Hawai‘i. Bequests also empower us to plan our future preservation, protection and enhancement strategies. A bequest may be for a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, shares of stock or mutual funds, or a residuary percentage of your estate after all other heirs have been remembered. All bequests that are not restricted by the donor may be added to invested reserves to ensure the long-term financial strength of The Outdoor Circle. The income from these reserves is applied to annual operating needs. If you wish to include The Outdoor Circle in your will or trust, the Board of Directors suggests the following language: “I give ________ (specific amount, percentage, residuary share, shares of stock or mutual funds) to The Outdoor Circle, having its principal offices at 1314 S. King Street, Suite 306, Honolulu, HI 96814, for its general purposes.”

If you have made provisions in your will or trust for The Outdoor Circle or are considering making such provisions and would like more information, please contact Ms. Taylor Boyd, Development Director. Those who have made provisions become part of The Outdoor Circle’s Leadership Circle and enjoy special privileges.

PLANNED GIFTS
Planned gifts play an important role in The Outdoor Circle’s efforts. Include The Outdoor Circle in your Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Policy, or take advantage of gift arrangements that pay income for life.

Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Policy
Many financial planners recommend giving cash, securities or property to heirs and making charitable gifts through retirement plans or life insurance policies. Many supporters name The Outdoor Circle as a beneficiary of their IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other qualified retirement plans, often saving substantially on estate and income taxes that would reduce the amount left to heirs. Take advantage of the newest provisions established in the recent Pension Protection Act of 2006.

Gift Arrangements That Pay Income for Life
Many Outdoor Circle supporters meet both their financial and philanthropic objectives when they donate cash or appreciated stocks to fund an Outdoor Circle Charitable Gift Annuity, a Pooled Income Fund gift, or a charitable trust. Through these gifts they enhance their lifetime income, receive significant tax reductions, and often save capital gains taxes. After their lifetimes, The Outdoor Circle puts their remaining gifts to work for preservation, protection and enhancement of the environment of Hawai‘i.

GIFT OF SECURITIES
Supporters may choose to make a tax-wise investment in the preservation of Hawaii’s environment by donating certain appreciated stocks or mutual fund shares to The Outdoor Circle. Donors of securities may receive income tax deduction and save capital gains tax. At the same time, the full value of the securities, undiminished by capital gains tax, goes to our preservation work.

EMPLOYER MATCHING CONTRIBUTIONS
To double the impact of your donation, check with your personnel office to determine if your employer offers matching gift opportunities.

WORKPLACE GIVING
More and more office employees are looking for collective ways to contribute to their community in lieu of gift exchanges, etc., in celebration of holidays or other significant dates. The Outdoor Circle appreciates these gifts as well as memorial gifts in remembrance of special people, dates or events.

MULTI YEAR FUNDING PLEDGE
Pledged funds allow The Outdoor Circle to plan effective long term strategies to protect Hawai‘i’s environment. Those who make a five year pledge ($500 minimum a year) become members of The Outdoor Circle’s Inner Circle and enjoy certain privileges.

For more information about any of the above, please contact Ms. Taylor Boyd, Development Director, at (808) 593-0300 or via email. All information discussed will remain confidential.
