Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle

aerial photo of Kailua BayThe Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle was founded as a branch in 1948, and is dedicated to beautifying Kailua by planting trees, shrubs and flowers in parks, public spaces, at schools and along streets and highways. LKOC maintains vigilance over these areas and endeavors to work with government maintenance people and community groups to coordinate beautification projects. The organization is dedicated to preserving open space, coastal vistas, shoreline areas, ridgelines and green belts.

Here are some of the ongoing activities of the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle:

  • Plant Exchange helps re-locate plants. You could donate plants from your collection or keep in touch to find some plants that need new homes.
  • Beautification encourages new plantings in Kailua and works to have them maintained. The committee works with the State of Hawaii, the County of Honolulu, local businesses, and schools to promote the natural beauty of our town. They also need help selecting homes and businesses for beautification awards.
  • Sign Control promotes education and enforcement of the sign laws of the City and County of Honolulu.
  • Holiday House Tour volunteers help organize our tour in early December and greet members in the homes during the tour.
  • Garden Circle meets monthly for tours of gardens or to enjoy a special presentation on gardening.
  • “I Love Kailua” Town Party is an annual event featuring entertainment, delicious food from Kailua restaurants, and sales of arts and crafts. The popular Town Party raises awareness of our beautification projects as well as making money for the planting and maintenance of them. We always need help in planning and publicizing the party, designing and selling T-shirts, setting up and taking down the equipment, and many other jobs.
  • Public Affairs works with government agencies and local businesses to make sure we are all working for the best for our community.
