Located in the seaside town of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai`i, Kona Outdoor Circle was established in 1948 as an affiliate of The Outdoor Circle of Honolulu. For over 50 years KOC has been spearheading projects to preserve and beautify the Kona area.
Kona Outdoor Circle’s community projects are supported by individual, family and business memberships as well as donations and fundraising activities. Prominent among the fundraising activities are the annual Pua Plantasia gala dinner with silent and live auctions, followed the next day by the largest plant sale in West Hawaii.
KOC provides a regular series of gardening classes for the community at its Education Center. KOC also sponsors a Master Gardener Program jointly with the University of Hawaii.
Kona Outdoor Circle’s Education Center provides meeting accommodations in a pavilion style open-air building situated on land just south and upslope of the village of Kailua-Kona. The building also houses the KOC office, the KOC Memorial Library, the Full Circle Thrift Shop and the office of the Historic Kealakowa’a Heiau Preservation Council. The Education Center building and gardens are available for rental to private and public entities.
